Ben Harker

Jazz Pianist | Composer | Producer

Welcome to my site!

My name is Ben and I am Jazz Pianist, composer and music producer.

I am a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (MA Jazz), and I perform in a wide range of large and small creative ensembles.

From an early age I was drawn to music. I started formal music tuition at age 7, learning to play the trumpet. My interest in and love for music was established and developed during my time as a Chorister at Exeter Cathedral and pupil at Exeter Cathedral School (2001-2005). My love for Jazz Piano took hold aged 12 having heard Oscar Peterson from my Dad’s record collection.

Improvisation is a key part of my skill set. I am an adept keyboard player and am also at home playing Hammond Organ. I enjoy employing the techniques of Art Tatum and Barry Harris and the harmonic approach of Clare Fischer

I currently write original music for my own jazz piano trio.  Alongside this I am often engaged in session and writing work for an eclectic range of established UK dance music and hip-hop producers, including such artists as Darkhouse Family, Chesus (AKA Earl Jeffers), Don Leisure and Esther Taylor. Some of this music is featured on vinyl releases on record labels such as First Word Records.

I am currently creating new music under the alias of The Golden Eternity.

I can program keyboards, synths and I like getting involved in sound design. Feel free to contact me via my contact page.

Jazz piano and my involvement in music is not just my profession but my whole life and my way of life. I am routinely engaged in performance, practice, composition or teaching, every day.
